The “How To” Economy: What is information marketing?

Information is a commodity. Information products are inexpensive (free) to create and once created can be sold over and over without additional work.

Information Marketing refers to the process of creating, packaging and marketing “how-to” information—in other words, creating something from nothing.

The primary skills you need to be an information marketer are the abilities to:

  • Research markets/topics
  • Create content (write/record)
  • Advertise

Information products can be created and sold as a means to make additional income. Information marketing can also be used to establish yourself as an expert in any field, lending instant credibility to you or your brand.

Information marketing can also serve as the core of an entire business system, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in passive income.

Computers and the internet have made it easy for anyone to own a successful information business. From the comfort of their homes, information marketers create reports, videos, eBooks, audio podcasts, online courses, correspondence classes, certificate programs, webinars, seminars and conferences. Most information marketing businesses offer several of these products to their customers.

Information marketing is one of the easiest businesses to start, as it requires little to no start-up capital. There are no gatekeepers. Anyone, from any background, can be an information marketer. You only need to be willing to learn and teach others.
